Sicilian Najdorf Tournament

Submitted by jonnyjupiter on Mon, 03/30/2009 at 1:36am.

Hi all.

We'll be continuing our exploration of the main lines of the Sicilian Defence with a tournament featuring the exceedingly popular Najdorf variation (as used by Fischer et al).

I'm planning on creating 2 tournaments with 8 places in each (unrated as usual) to begin on Friday 10th April. If there is sufficient interest we can create 3 tournaments.

Do you want the tournaments split according to ratings (e.g. 1000-1600 and 1601+) or would you rather leave them open?

Remember guys - this is a learning environment, so competition is healthy and great, but it comes second to learning the main ideas - get talking to each other in these games!!

The current plan is to roll out one variation every month, going through all the main lines and posting analysis after each tournament concludes. We can have a look at the whole opening after we've played through the main variations and offer general conclusions. Next one up - the extra-sharp Sveshnikov!

Count me in also. If enough are available, I would go with the split ratings. But, I'm in either way. Even though I don't know what I'm doing in the current tourny, I'm learning some things and having fun!  And, isn't that the main idea - learn and have fun?

Anyone who posts here will have first call on tournament places - I'll invite you guys before I invite the rest of the group.

So far - Rating brackets 5 - Open 0

I agree with Simen do.  If we have enough players which I think we do, we should split up the ratings.
