05.11.2010 – The shock on Friday: the world's number one player for most of 2010, 19-year-old Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen, has decided to drop out of the current World Championship cycle, in which he had reached the Candidate stage of the last eight. The series of knock-out matches is scheduled to begin in March next year, to determine the challenger of the World Champion Vishy Anand. Letter to FIDE.

Great lineup and the pairings for the first round are interesting, I'm really eager to see how Aronian-Kramnik turns out. I want to see Aronian solidify his #3 spot. Also Karjakin-Gelfand should be good also. Hopefully, this tournament will bring a high amount of decisive games. And as for the World Blitz Championship, I believe Carlsen will defend his title.

I read somewhere that, despite having missing fingers, he played the piano well. If only he'd taken better care of himself ...
