Team USA SW votes to remain independent

Submitted by pdmura on Thu, 11/05/2009 at 9:14am.

By a narrow margin the team voted 26 to 19 to remain an independent team.

We have demonstrated that we can compete with anyone.  I believe our keys to winning are the following:

  1. More of our highest rated players must participate in our toughest matches.  We don't need our strongest players in every match, but there are times we need them.  Example:  we will need everyone rated above 2300 to sign up for the match with Russia in December
  2. Our middle and lower board players must sign up in large numbers.  Remember, every match counts as one point. Even if we are overmatched at the highest levels we can overcome that by being stronger in the  middle and lower boards.  This group of players must not not loose heart when there are not enough boards for them to get matches.  We will be playing larger teams, so we need you to continue to sign up.  Example:  The practice match I set up for players below 1700 with Team England we are totally overmatched in the bottom 10 boards - we needed more middle rated players to give whole roster a good shot at winning.
  3. Make our opponents earn every point - we should strive for zero matches lost on timeouts and withdrawals.

I will submit the results to the World Leage and I'll let you know what happens as a result.

We have voted.  We are strong together.  We can take on anyone.  So lets do it!

Paul

"I am happy with the results but the turn out looked like a @*%#!! general election."

It is about a 20% turnout from the whole membership, but I think we got a much better turnout of players who are signing up for matches.  Also, I have to assume only those who had a strong preference voted, so the low turnout is not necessarily an indication of apathy but rather that they are content either way.

Sorry!  I found a couple irregularities - they are now corrected.  That is one reason for posting the roll call.  Thanks!

I'm not sure if I was confused or there was confusion, as my "yes" was to vote yes to merging.
