The Seniors Club has been challenged!

Submitted by natrix on Mon, 07/28/2008 at 9:33pm.

Exciting News for Seniors Club members!!

We have been challenged to a group tourney by none other than the Circle of Trust.

I received a very polite request to consider the idea from one of their administrators which included the following statement:

Our group is a very respectful and honest group of players. We are mostly "older and wiser" but have a few young, but repectful, members.

After reading the description of their club, I think it's a great idea. Details will be worked out over the next few weeks.

Please post any suggestions you may have!

(If we're lucky we might even get to use some new Chess.com Team Chess features!)

Cheers, Everyone! Laughing

Regarding the Seniors Club Team Match vs. the Circle of Trust:
Some members may want to play in 2 games (their own Section, and the Section above)

That''s ok!

You may play in your own Section, and the Section above, but not in the one below.

The games will set the games up today, and as we have agreed to play OTB, they will agree to play by rating groups.

The rule is: if you wish to play up a group, that is fine, but you cannot play down a group.

The response from their admin is surprising.. I have played one of their members before - and he told me that they don't impose their code on the opponents (i.e., they are okay with being a bit handicapped because of this).

Their code is quite interesting, but I am not sure I can join this match... Frown

I don't like the idea of changing the way I play just to satisfy a group who choose to restrict their options. I choose to play correspondence chess rather than OTB chess and see no reason to take up some bastardised amalgam of both styles of chess just to satisfy their needs. On that basis, I will not play in this match.

Here is the Circle of Trust admin's response to my Team Challenge suggestion:

"OK we are ready to accept your challenge, however, we would like to play as a full team, in one match, rather than a number of matches by ratings. I suggest we leave the numbers in the match open, and you and I can make a decision when to commence. One other thing is we play OTB in our Group, and many members are worried we will be at a disadvantage playing opponents who may use the Analysis Board, or the Conditional Moves, or any other things like opening books etc. as even playing opponents outside CoT we still prefer to stick to our principles. If the members of your Group can agree to these rules, we will be happy to play, advise if you wish to challenge, or want us to challenge you. Good Luck."

Does this sound OK with everyone?

Hello Everyone! It looks like the time is right for some Team vs. Team action Cool

I will contact the Circle of Trust admin to see when they will be ready to begin. I would like to hear some suggestions from you regarding desired time controls, rating sections, and any other suggestions you may have. I am initially considering the following:

  • Section 1: >2000
  • Section 2: 1800 - 1999
  • Section 3: 1600 - 1799
  • Section 4: 1200 - 1599
  • Section 5: Under 1200

Please let me know what you think

As a member of the Circle of Trust, I look forward to perhaps being on the COT team, and playing against your Group, I dont know how long it will take for chess.com to organize a Group v Group programme, and I am not keen on the idea of Vote Chess as a competition, so I will speak to our Admin, and we may be able to come up with a competition we organize ourselves between our two groups.
