Things we're working on!

Submitted by erik on Thu, 02/28/2008 at 1:33pm.

Sometime people ask what we are working on. So here you go!

#1 - getting the bugs out of Live Chess (and working on the interface) [2-3 more weeks]

#2 - improving tournaments including an overall tournament stat for total tournaments [1-2 more weeks]

#3 - a fun page in turn-based chess to see the top-rated games [2-3 days]

#4 - badges and widgets to put in social networks and blogging platforms [2-3 weeks]

#5 - tournaments between groups [2-3 weeks]

#6 - games and opening explorer [4-6 more weeks]

Always so much to do!

I ponied up my coin ( first 29.95  for a gold membership (1yr)then about 3 weeks later  added 52.50 for  the platinum membership ( 1yr)for the privilege to call chess.com my chess home away from home. there are many good reasons for my investing in  Chess.com for  life. Top of the list  ( for me )
is the people that care as much as I do for chess. Its a family type bond I think. So the positions are numerous for friendship aswell as excellent chess battles !! Oh yeah !!And if your not learning then you must be on vacation !! what else can I say..
If your into it then your feeling me.
This place had me at thank you for your transaction... The rest is as they say his story.. Or mine ... Play to live , live to play.. Your move.

Would it be possible for an on page global language translator  ??
It would bridge a mighty wave for chess unity..

What are bugs? Good effort. How could I apply to become a staff of chess.com?

I would just like to say as a "freeloader" that I think chess.com is awesome and I would love to support it. But I'm a completely broke college student and online chess sites (no matter how great they are) just can't find a place in my non-existent budget. However, after I graduate and begin working I will most certainly become a paying member. I don't see why some paying members seem so hostile towards non-paying members. If non-paying members are banished forever that would make me very sad indeed. Anyhow, thanks for the amazing (and constantly improving) site Erik!

on #5 it wouldnt be fair if like a group with 480 people face a tournament with 34 people. Also, what if your in 2 groups that are playing eachother?

It will be great, if we can have details of captured pieces in playing "Against the computer". Please let me know if I need to place this suggestion elsewhere.

since people are talking about "freeloaders" such as myself, I figured I should put in my two cents. The current system works pretty well. There are plenty of other sites that people can play chess on for free, but the extra features make this site special and interesting. Almost all of those features are limited quite severly for non-paying members, but not completely restricted. Thus, non-paying members like myself can get hooked into the extras and want more more. That is why I am gonna get a membership soon-ish.

if we give a long "free period" and then cut it off, people will just quit and come back under different names.

garnetwest suggested free for a month or so,  I suggest free for four months and then they have to pay or be restricted to no more than 2 games at a time.   that should get folks paying up.  by four months, they will be as addicted to the site as I have become (unfortunately for some other things I need to (should) be doing.

Great work guys!  We need to figure a way thought to get more of the "freeloaders" to eventually become members.  I agree that it should be free to try for a month or so, but long then that then I think people are just taking advantage of what you guys have built.
