What a Week it Was

TOP TEN PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

GK: Michel Vorm (Swansea City)

The Dutch international keeper pulled off a string of blinding saves to help seal a goalless draw at Anfield as he again distinguished himself for Brendan Rodgers's side. Tottenham's Brad Friedel and Wigan's Ali Al-Habsi also excelled at the weekend, but Vorm was the only one of the three to remain unbeaten.

RB: Joe Riley (Bolton Wanderers)

A Premier League debut to remember for the 20-year-old defender, who showed plenty of attacking talent against Stoke as he marauded down the flank and sent in one high-quality cross after another.

CB: Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal)

While the main asset the Gunners have missed during the Belgian's absence through injury is his defensive abilities, he also has a great knack for popping up with the odd goal - which he did once more against West Brom.

CB: Ashley Williams (Swansea City)

The Wales centre-back helped the Swans secure their fifth clean sheet of the season at Liverpool, making a number of important tackles and interceptions as well as blocking three shots.

LB: Ryan Taylor (Newcastle United)

The Newcastle full-back's stunning strike proved the winner against Everton, but his defensive work was just as vital in maintaining the Magpies' unbeaten start to the season.

RM: Chris Eagles (Bolton Wanderers)

The midfielder's performance against Stoke was as tireless as it was influential. He scored two goals in the 5-0 rout which helped avenge last season's FA Cup semi-final defeat by the same scoreline at the hands of the Potters.

CM: Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

The Spaniard is adapting to life at Arsenal very nicely indeed, and he was rewarded for a fine showing against West Brom with a goal when he rounded off a classy move to make it 3-0.

CM: Frank Lampard (Chelsea)

The veteran midfielder saved Chelsea's bacon by scoring the only goal of the game at Blackburn - his sixth in eight matches - with an excellent diving header.

LM: David Silva (Manchester City)

The Spaniard is very much the man of the moment, winning huge plaudits for pulling the strings of City's fearsome, free-scoring attack. His performance in the 3-2 win at QPR has only enhanced his early claims for Player of the Year.

FW: Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)

The Villa striker repeatedly tore through Norwich in his side's 3-2 win, scoring one goal and setting up the other two. His reward is a first England call-up for two years.

FW: Robin van Persie (Arsenal)

Like Agbonlahor, Van Persie claimed two assists as well as a goal for himself as the Gunners set about dismantling West Brom. Unlike Agbonlahor, however, the Dutchman's goal was his 11th in as many league appearances this season.

(Cleans sheets are what Everton does not have lately because they let too many players walk.)

(Finishing with a goal from the midfield.  Now there is a novel idea.)
