World Chess Title

For all you Indian folks out there that are on chess.com, start cheering. An Indian is finally a world champion. Isn't it ironic that chess was invented in India and we still didn't have a world champ? Well, thanks to Viswanathan Anand, we finally have a champ. Hooray!

And yes. post-1947 when what we now know as Pakistan and India were born, he moved to Pakistan and was a Pakistani citizen until his death in 1966. So 'greatest pakistani chess player' is nearer the truth.

chess-by-dice-throw-move-selection was invented in india. It was modified to chess-by-skill in Persia. So the state-of-theart historical research into this goes.

cut out the jingoism, ppl. One might almost as well say 'india' was part of 'pakistan' then. pre-1940 there was no Westphalian State called India. (or Pakistan.) there was Brit india, hundreds of princely states, portuguese india, and french india etc. Even the Mughal empire was basically north indian and did not extend to all of northern india - and Tipu Sultan, King of Mysore, recognised not the emperor of delhi but the Ottoman Caliph as his Caliph.

Sultan Khan was in the employ of a Hindu Maharaja. There was no 'Pakistan' at that time or for thousands of years before that. Sultan Khan has also won a game against the all time great Capablanca.

"Sultan Khan was not Indian. He was from Pakistan, first of all. Second of all, Sultan Khan, never officially became the champion. You are probably confusing the World Chess Championship with the British Chess Championship. He won the British one, not the World Title."

Pakistan was part of India at the time.
