2010 World Team Chess Championships

Submitted by SonofPearl on Mon, 01/04/2010 at 1:10pm.

The 2010 World Team Chess Championships starts on 5 January in Bursa, Turkey.

The format is a nine-team round-robin competition, with each team selecting four players from a squad of six.  The time control is FIDE's fairly speedy 40 moves in 90 mins, then 30 mins to a finish, and a 30 second increment from the start.

The national teams are a mix of qualifiers and invitees from around the world, with India replacing China who were late withdrawals.

The official website is here.

Tigran Petrosian in team Armenia is not the world champ Petrosian (1929-1984) as some people might think :). He is a young chess player who e.g. played on team Armenia's board #4 during Dresden Chess Olympiad in 2008. Though he is an Olympic champ instead :)

really a shame there is no USSR Championship anymore, that was always a great tournament.... but how come Kramnik doesn't play in the Russian team?

edit: @ nqi, the Petrosian I think you're talking about died in 1984, the Petrosian in the tourney was born in 1984 ;)...
