Oh I now get it, thamks IGWoods

vp99, white can do d5, Nf3 or e3 instead of dxc5. He doesn't have to take. It would be alot better for him all around if he doesn't take in my opinion.
The move c6 isn't the best move black has. Black could just do 2... c5 and then white has to resapond by 3.dxc5 which allows black to do 3...e5

simple a player at first wanted to play the Kings, Queens or some other Indian defence than panicked and reverted back to his old opening the slav.

I have played this before, 90%+ of the time, it transposes into normal Slav defence lines.

Black is fighting for control of d5, but without allowing the normal ...e6 Bg5 lines that pin the bishop. Black can either choose to continue with ...d5, ...d6, ...g6 - there are a lot of ideas at his disposal here. The downside is it is not as "forcing" as some mainlines, so some players don't like to play openings with wide transpositional opportunities. Plus, if you look, there is a high draw percentage. So if you want to play for a win, this might not be your opening of choice.
