I don't think there is acctualy anything wrong with that moves. How would you suggest to protect the e4 pawn? By Nc3 or Pd3, I don't find any other logical way. If Nc3 then black makes Bb4, attacking the knight and possibly doubling pawns. If Pd3 the bishop can't retreat to white's castle.
