    This is probably one of the best options for the gambit. The knight develops, and prevents Qh5+.

    Of course it will not be defeated quickly, but if white knows what he's doing Qf6 will lose. But it is playable like most.

    Qf6 never gets played here because it's bad for this position. You should play Qf6 on the move two if you want, the norwalde variation.

    why is 3.g5 so popular here? It weakens blacks king a lot, and trying to hold onto the pawn like that is not good at all, in fact it's what white wants. I think I'd go with 3.Be7.
