67 players celebrated National chess Day in West Des Moines by participating a free youth chess double header sponsored by Coggins Shoes for Kids in Marietta, GA and St. Francis of Assisi.

The 28-player morning rated section saw a 5 way tie for first between Nick Leung, Sam Cole, Nathan Chen, Mathew Hintz, and Ana Denison with 2.5 out of 3 points. Kevin Conner won the 22 player unrated section wirh a perfect 3-0 score.

The afternoon rated section had a 3 way tie for first between Nathen Chen, his brother Jason, and Sean Urban with perfect 3-0 scores. The 8 player unrated section saw Brogan Kirkpatrick sweep the field with a 5-0 score.
