2011 Okoboji Open

  IM John Bartholomew won the 2011 Okoboji Open held in the Arrowwood Inn in Okoboji, Iowa on April 15 to the 17th, 2011. After Bartholomew drew with NM Matt Dahl in round 3, NM Okechukwu Iwu was in the lead with a perfect 3 out of 3, but Bartholomew beat Iwu and expert Brendan Purcell in the final 2 rounds to take the lead. Dahl beat NM Frank Johnson in round 4 but was to a draw by Iwu in the final round and had to content himself with shared second-third with 10 year old expert Andrew Tang.

  In the reserve section, Russ Swanson of Minnesota won his first 4 games and was a half point ahead of Riaz Khan of Minneapolis heading into their final round battle. Swanson was a pawn up and offerred a draw from a position of strength, which Riaz accepted. Khan shared second through fifth with John Flores, Bill Broich, and Sam Smith.
