30 players competed at a chess tournament at Jordan Creek Elementary school in West Des Moines on May 14th, 2011. Shuvethan Sivagurunathan won the USCF rated trophy section with 4.5 out of 5 points. The unrated youth medal tournament was swept by the April's tournament winner Gabriel Pavlik, whose dad Shawn likewise repeated as champion of the parents and friends tournament.
