Gent, Belgium

When in Sint-Niklaas, we went to spend most of the day in the beautiful city of Gent (also spelled Ghent sometimes).  I took about 150 pictures in Gent, so how do I represent Gent in just a few.  Let's try...

Sint Michielskerk...

... and a glimpse of the inside.

A view on the river from the bridge just passed St. Michielskerk.

Of course we took a boat ride. "Onder de maan op de lange rivier schuift de kano na zee." (Under the moon, on the long river, the boat shifts towards the sea."

I took this one of the castle from the boat.  Being in motion and with my camera not able to go wide-angle enough, I missed the top op the tower. Further along the river I took a picture of a notice saying "Toeristenlawaai, Bewonersverdriet." (Tourist noise, resident's lament)

From the boat, we saw this beerhouse with the notice "Bierhuis... Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant." (Beer House... The Water house on the Beer side." We went for a beer there afterwards.  I took one of my most beautiful pictures of the trip inside the beerhouse.  I made an enlargement, framed it and it's hanging somewhere in the house, but sorry, I'm not going to give it away here!

Het Cooremetershuys - huys meaning house, but I can't get behind the full meaning - can anybody help?  It seems to be used as a shop nowadays.

To finish of the visit to Gent, we had lunch in the restaurant Belga Queen.

Next: Bratislava, capital of Slovakia, on the river Danube.
