Our next stop on the trip was the charming town/small city Sint Niklaas in Belgium. Our flight was to Brussels, but we did not really see anything of Brussels.

The statue of Sint Niklaas at one end of the city square.

At the far end you can see the cathedral in front of which stands Sint Niklaas. This guy welcomes you to the city square, and with the words "Het Woord" (The Word) at his feet, you might think he is a monk and "Het Woord" refers to the Bible...

... until you see him from behind! I think "Het Woord" has to be taken more literally and has something to do with dictionaries.

This one of a church(?) along the square was taken from a place ('t Genoegen, I think), where we sat wondering at the bubbles rising from the engraved "D" at the bottom of the Duvel beer glass.

The statues are what really makes the city beautiful for me. This one of a dancer is to be found at "Stedelijke Akademie voor Muziek Woord Dans".

There is also a very beautiful park, where I would have liked to spend hours.

After walking around for an hour or two on the last afternoon in Sint Niklaas, we felt we needed a packet of potatoe chips. We find a place. The menu behind the counter offered us the opportunity to practice our Dutch with the owner and her daughter. I was so sorry i did not take note of the name of the business, but I just spotted it in another one of my pictures, it is called De Knapzak and it is in Knaptandstraat, not too far from the square.

The final one I just have to place here for my South African friends: Moerlandstraat!
Next: We spent the Saturday in the city of Gent.
