"The Winner" - Calgary Chess Statue

Submitted by Rael on Wed, 03/26/2008 at 10:14am.

On a recent outing to a pub, I managed to still fit some chess.com in by photographing some pictures of a statue of a chess player here in Calgary.

The statue is titled "The Winner" and it was done by the artist J. Seward Johnson. Some pieces in the position have been bashed right off of the board, and the black Queen is humorously bent, as you'll see.

Oh - and I've posted a thread specifically to discuss the feasibility of the position and to field speculation about it here: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/game-analysis/calgary-chess-statue-odd-position

Enjoy the pictures!

Nice pictures Rael. Thanks for putting them up. I wish there was a cool chess statue here in Winnipeg. (There isnt one here, is there, Winnipegers? I'm new here.)
