Risen into the circuit of competitional values two years ago, the Kings' Tournament experienced a continuous growth. Here it is at its climax, the third edition is getting to the 20-th cathegory (average Elo: 2729), a standard which is clearly surpassing any other event from the Romanian chess history.
ROMGAZ and the Chess Club Society „Elisabeta Polihroniade” of Bucharest – as organisers – have adopted a new format (double round robin), inviting six of the world chess Olympus: the young Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaidjan, Elo 2756, ranking 5-th in the World), the experienced Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine, Elo 2746, 12-th in the World), Alexei Shirov (Spain, Elo 2745, 13-th in the World), Boris Gelfand (Israel, Elo 2733, 15-th in the World), Gata Kamsky (SUA, Elo 2720, 24 in the World), as well as the best ever rated of the Romanian chess stars: Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, ex European Champion (title won in 2005) (Elo 2675, 55-th in the World).
