I'll take you  on in a MENSA  chess game if you can solve this riddle,

  You have two volumes of a large  book.  vol. 1  is 3 1/2inches thick, volume 2

is 4 inches thick  the  covers  are  1/4 both books.  if you put the  two books

on the shelf  side  by  side, vol 1 vol  2, how far is it from the first page of vol 1

to  the last  page of vol  2
