Soccer Party

Submitted by Vance917 on Mon, 07/14/2008 at 7:44pm.

In some places, only the men play soccer.  In others, women play too, but apart from the men.  In still others, teams are comprised of men and women together.  I have four co-ed teams, White Lightning on Saturdays, then Code Red on Sundays, Monday nights, and Thursday nights.  This was the "end of the season" party for the weekend teams.  Code Red just won its second straight Championship, both decided in penalty kicks.  Living on the edge!  This party celebrated our Championship season, plus was a send-off for Ben, who is one of the best players ever to play in this league, but is moving to Guatemala.  The White Lightning MVPs were Ty and Michael (who missed the party).  The Code Red MVPs were Beth and Ben.  The MVPs of the Championship Games were Ben (White Lightning) and Josh (Code Red).

Great photos, Vance! It's neat seeing smiling soccer players from elsewhere on the continent! :)

Thank you Rael!  Do you play too?  Here are two similarities I can think of (although one is to American football).  When I promote a pawn, I liken it to a touch down.  And if I move one piece to reveal a discovered attack from another piece, I call this a step-over (my favorite dribbling move in soccer).

Hey cool album Vance! You should make a post about the similarities between chess and soccer (football?).

For confidentiality, I am reluctant to provide his full name here.  His first name is Marwen.  He says that he was a reserve on Palace when they were in the Premier League.  I have not verified this, nor did I find anything to this effect when I searched Google, but I have no reason to doubt him either...

Reallllly, now my ears have pricked up. Who is the english prem player? Also, I hate playing indoors too, I once almost took a big metal light out of the roof. (it wasn't a shot, honest)

Yes, great to hear from you again!  The two weekend teams are full 11v11, whereas Monday and Thursday nights are 7v7, but outdoors, under the lights.  I hate indoors!  We just played tonight, and won 10-0 -- even I scored a goal!  We have a new player who used to play in the English Premier League.  He scored only one goal, but is quite a catalyst!

I'm playing football on wednesday. Just fives like. Is the competitions you play in 11's? I don't think that I could play 11's, too unfit. Well done to Code Red.

Oh, by the way. White lightening is a very strong cheap cider that tramps drink over here :)

*Just saw your user name. I think that I've talked to you about football before. You play alot but don't watch much*

Anyway, if I have spoke to you before, hello again, if not, hello!

 Bye.
