The UMADA Cup ("Umada" is an Incan word meaning 'friendship') is a 9 round Swiss chess tournament sponsored by current FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

The inaugural event was held from August 14-18th in the Cascadia Conference Centre, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Eligible to players from South & Central America; and the Caribbean, the event had a prize fund of $40,000.00USD.

There were two sections, the Open was for any players from GM, IM, FM rated and below; And the Challenger section, in which I participated, was limited to players with FIDE rating under 2100 to unrated players. A WIM(Woman International Master) and 2 WFM's were in the Challenger Section as well as 14 players with a FIDE rating >2000.

I scored 5 wins, 3 losses(1 against the eventual winner), with 1 drawn in nine - 90 minute per player games.
