Wow what a beautiful woman

I posted this on  the comments you made to my pictures of the caterpillars. How do you know so much??? Must have an interesting job?

repost of my caterpillar ramblings -

People and mostly teachers have been complaining that they can't find the anise caterpillars this year but have noticed an abundance of ladybugs.

I became interested in these caterpillars after stumbling upon some pipevine caterpillars. Some interesting comparisons between the 2 species:

Pipevine caterpillars

-Black and Red color - color of poison in nature?

- gather toxins like the monarchs from milkweed.

- have minimal amounts of insects on their plant.

- several large caterpillars often on the same plant.

Anise Swallowtails -

- Contain - no red but good camouflage

Does this camouflage provide protection from predatory insects?

Have several species of insects on the hose plant and many more ladybugs.

Very rare to find a large caterpillar in nature.

Thanks so much for your time - I will try and find some pipevines today and post them for you.

Best
