Started work on my own custom chess set with the handy scroll saw, so far I'm having a blast.

Thanks again Hugo, if you ever change your mind just let me know. You sold a set? I've never done that before, I have kept or gifted every set I've ever made, I'm afraid if I sell one it'll feel like a business, or more like work! I'm already shopping wood for my next design, I think I'm going to return to the Gator head knights, this time I'll power carve and turn them. Found a deal on Burmese Blackwood online today, I'll couple that with some nice white oak and I'll be in good shape.

thats very kind of you. However i dont have a scroll saw. i also want to give all my time to wood turning the pieces. also this design is so good, so unique that it is so trade mark. the design of my last set is something i will certainly develop and keep making with improvements to the design. i am working on the next set using lemon wood and american black walnut. I was so pleased to see your sister recieve that wonderful gift of the set. the s shape curves in that design r really great. thats so kind of you to offer the design but i dont see myself making something as well made as you made it. just looking at your set is enough to give me pleasure. the first lathe set you made is a really good one and i am looking forward to seeing more. my first set nearly all the pieces were different a right mix. i was lucky that a rich enthusiast bought the set off me for £200. i do have one photo of it in a box. which is why i photograph as much of the progress and results as possible. i like to share the progress of what i make on instagram and post the complete making once there done.

Thanks Hugo! If you have a scroll saw I'd be willing to share the design with you ( a fellow wood/chess enthusiast)! The finish is imported "black shellac" a wonderful color (rich purple).

Honestly I've never considered selling them, however I've had a number of people ask now, so I'll have to give it some thought.

Nice! That's my next project, making a board, getting some new tools after father's day so I hope to have some new photos up by then.

Ha yeah, I've made a chess board years ago, and have played many games on it (but sadly not all wins)!

Thanks! I enjoy the game, I'm rather lousy at it, but a loss still feels better when it happens using pieces you made ;)
