Glades Chess (Swamp Knights) - Custom Turned

Well all, here's the final set and black side pieces. The original idea came from a set I made last year where I replaced the Horse head knights with Gator head knights. It turned out surprisingly well, so this is just the next logical progression.

The woods used are Red Oak (white side) and Burmese Blackwood (black side). The king height is roughly 3.5 inches and the pieces were designed to sit on a 1.75inch square board.

The finish on the white side pieces is high gloss polyurethane, the finish on the black pieces is Shellac + Wax. The burmese black wood cannot readily be poly'd as the natural oils in the wood prevent curing.

The bottoms of all the pieces bear my "mark" as is customary for traditional chess set contruction.

Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Thanks, it's my hope that one day my daughter (or perhaps future grandkids?) will end up with them. But for now I'll settle for enjoying a few games in the near term.

Sorry about that, added one showing the mark, it will end up under the leather base.

Nice colors on the wood.  Good craftsmanship on the carving.  Great attention to detail.

Now, do we get to see your mark on the bottom of the pieces, or is that a trade secret, to only be seen by the purchaser?

    Smile
