Cappadocia, Turkey
This region of turkey has now become a popular tourist destination whether Germans,Japanese, Italians or Americans. Its unique geological, historical and cultural features make it a major attraction. It is located southwest of Kayseri and east of Ankara, the capital city of Turkey. Cappadocia, is in the triangle between the cities of Nevşehir, Ürgüp and Avanos. The name itself is derived from Persian meaning land of beautiful horses.
Known in ancient time as Asia Minor, this land is linked to such legend as Alexander the Great and later with early Chistians as testified by the many chapels with amazingly beautiful frescoes. Sadly many of them disfigured.
Göreme National Park and the Rock sites of Cappadocia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
These weird formations around Göreme are created through an still ongoing erosion of the soft sedimantary rocks which started several millions years ago. Judge for yourself whether these spectacular pillars are fairy chimneys, mushroom, minaret or phallus forms. One of the valleys is also known as valley of love...
