Four days in Saarland

Submitted by jrs49 on Sun, 08/30/2009 at 12:36pm.

Saarland is the smallest of the 16 German federal states both in area and population ( roughly 1 million).  It has had quite an agitated history in the past and was only allowed to rejoin the Federal Republic in1957.

The name itself comes from the Saar river, a tributary of the Moselle River. It has borders with both France and Luxembourg.  Relative to its size Saarland has the most forests and less densely populated.  I was pleasantly surprised not to encounter so much traffic on country roads.

Someday, when I have become a successful businessman, I'll have a vacation to Germany too, and maybe eastern European countries... Who knows, perhaps when I'm 40.
