    Great, I'll look forward to the pictures! I once took a tour in an old coal mine, but that was probably a lot different, as it wasn't a huge hole, but many passages.

    The one with the "Man Made Mountains" shows the non iron ore piles of rock that are removed to get to the ore underneath.  That kinda shows you how large a hole they have dug.  The underground iron mines are all closed now... there used to be over 30 underground mines around Negaunee and Ishpeming over the last century. Now there are only open pit mines where they just dig a very large hole to get to the ore.  I have some pictures of when I worked underground in the last iron mine in Negaunee.  I will post them soon... and let you know. :-)

    Nice, are any of the buildings in the pictures buildings where miners work?

    Thanks Daniel!  I believe the town was founded in about the 1880s. :-)  Iron was found about a mile from where I live and the rest is history.... mining has been the main employer ever since. :-)
