Half Face with Collar

I like this picture because it gives so few details and "says" so much. It looks to me like this guy is trying to lie his way out of something. It could be, though, that this sort of body language was only "invented" for Hollywood movies. Did anyone actually behave this way in real life? Also, this gesture is distinctly male. The man's "Adam's apple" seems to be missing, however.
