I want to share with you something about my c

Submitted by paula53 on Sat, 06/13/2009 at 2:09am.

My father bought this chess board in an auction sale in Algeria (North Africa) in 1962.....I can say that is ancient!!!!!Lol...you know why do I say that???...In a forum of chess mistress...a lady that is born in 1961 said that she is ancient...If she is..Undecided  I think  I'm prehistoricLaughing...

I'm telling you that because it  was a historical period in Algeria ( they had their indipendance from France), French had to leave the country ..and they sold what they could in auction...

I think if in chess. com there is someone of Algeria or  France ( they have to be prehistoric like me of course!!!!Lol)...they will remember this period ...

In that period I've learned to play chess...

my father (journalist)was playing chess with this chess board while he  was waiting for the news coming from  telex ( an ancient engine !!!......no computer at that time)Wink...

Hope what I said will interest someone!!Undecided

Hi Paula, it is an amazing structure, the way the board has been put together, with the added space between the players, the pieces are unique in themselves...it is a beautiful chess set ..... and with your friends, no I don't think either of them are ancient or prehistoric....I know your joking, where is one in this world if we cannot have a joke, especially with friends....take care and God bless.

Hi Paula, in another life time there were many chess tables in my life, I am glad there is one in yours to remember your father by. Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, but today it is a gift. That is why they call it the present. Corny I know but it is who I am.

Lovely set! And 1961 was a great year...some wonderfully fine people (ahem) were born then (at least my mother thinks so :)

Hi,

you have a very nice family, and photos of interesting places. The chess board is very special, you are not as ancient as I am and  you do not look ancient at all!

Nice set... 1961 ? Ancient ? Does that mean that in 7 years I will be ancient ? I think not. I'm of the school that 48 is the new 38, or in my case I hope that 47 will still be the new 37. Right now I'm trying to convince myself that 40 is the new 30. Numbers, only numbers. But 1961 was the year Roger Maris hit 61 homers. But who cares ? He was probably juiced up on coffee back then...
