Not that great anymore

Most appropriate for me, than Great Britain, is United Kingdom.  The union of Kingdoms that stops the ancient war just to conquer another land which is such a waste of life and leaving thousands of homes fatherless.

 

I am sure it refers to the idea of a United Scotland, England, Wales. (they tagged northern Ireland on after)The whole thing together. Like Greater London or Greater Manchester.

It is because of the latter.

I'd like to think it's called 'Great' Britain, because we were once quite a forceful empire on the world stage, but I fear in reality that it's called 'Great' Britain because it's the largest of the British Isles :-)

Anyone know any different?
