Glad you enjoyed Alaska, Zomby. I lived there for four years and have mixed thoughts about the state. I believe the land is amazing.

"...There's the land. (Have you seen it?) It's the cussedest land that I know, From the big, dizzy mountains that screen it To the deep, deathlike valleys below. Some say God was tired when He made it, Some say it's a fine land to shun; Maybe; but there's some as would trade it For no land on earth-and I'm one."

A quote from one of Robert Service's poems.

However, after living in Alaska for four years, and understanding that the oil companies and right-wing crazies are in control of the state (paid off by BP, EXXON, etc) I believe a boycott of Alaska tourism would be appropriate. Perhpas they would vote dangerous characters like Sarah Palin out.... Therir Congress people are just as despicable and devious...  But the state is gorgeous....

Great pics, Zomby. My oldest daughter lives in Fairbanks. Alaska is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Aurora Ice Museum in Chena Hot Springs... pretty cool. lol. Denali and the Black Diamond golf course. The North Pole and Santa Claus' house... woohoo. I will have to post some pics... ask me about the name of the bar halfway between Fairbanks and Anchorage... funny.

i worked about an hour north of talkeetna i had one day a week off and i spent it drinking beer and napping on the banks of that big old river that goes through the town.. i was really nice to the people in the Talkeetna hostel i used to steal all sorts of things from my work like toilet paper and tea and give it to them by the box-full

i hope the clouds cleared up enough for you to see the summit of Denali way up there (or Mt. McKinley as some call it)

i like the name Denali ("Great One" in the Inuit language) much better than to name it after some president who only spent a month in office and got poisoned or shot or something

incredible place...  have more pix I will put up including Northern Lights and a lone wolf we saw when campong in Danali.....  In fact, that is when we stopped in Talkneeta, on the way there.  I remember drinking beer called Moose Drool, but I don't remember the moose jaw taps....  not sure how I could forget that, must have been those rice crispy treats!

great pics.. i took one when i was up there that i had framed.. it sure is a gorgeous place ..the local bar i frequented in Talkeetna, AK had a beer named Moose Drool on tap from the big sky brewery.. the actual tap they used to pour your pint was made of a skeletal moose jaw

from the bugs to the buds to the salmon.. it seemed like everything was at least 10% larger in Alaska than in the lower 48

something i will never forget is watching the sun set at 5am while i was standing in a stream fly fishing.. then 20 minutes later.. the sun rise!

    glad you had fun zombie

Ah, yes, Alaska is killer...but expensive.  It looks like you guys did it up with the ice climbing.  Nothing like strapping on some crampons to let you know you are going to get a real work-out.
