I own several House of Staunton sets and find the workmanship to be top quality. These are all sets which I use in tournaments. Delivery has always been very fast and the items well packed. I feel the offerings from HOS well worth the price charged.

For tournament play I use either the St Petersburgh 4.4" or the Brighton 4" (similar to their Susan Polgar set).

I bought a set at Christmas, (for myself, is that bad?). The customer service was outstanding and the quality of the set was beyond my expectations. It's well worth the added expense to have a heirloom quality set if you can afford it. Get the best you can swing.

Don't know of any maker who comes close.  These are people who make a positive difference in the world.  Their sets are art.  As stated above, beautiful, just beautiful.

I own several HOS sets myself. Actually one of them (Wild Knights) was made by another company that went out of business and HOS bought out their remaining inventory and then sold them. I also have bought a few boards from HOS. I am getting a little suspicious about one of their sets though, the "Limited Edition Brighton Set." There are only suppose to be 50 of these sets. I bought one of the first of these sets back in 2007. Tomorrow will be 2010 and these sets are still being auctioned on ebay. I watch ebay for sets alot and have seen many many many of the brighton sets being auctioned over the last couple of years. I just wished I would have kept count. I have emailed HOS on a few occassions but can never get a direct answer on how many more of these sets they have to auction. I do like the HOS sets that I own but if I'm told that one is a limited edition I want it to be just that....limited!!!

Well it is now 1/29/2010 and a three more brighton sets have been up for auction since my last post. I also just purchased the Carton Pierre Casket and an Ebonized Reykjavik II chess set. I now know that the knights are two piece because both black knights were seperated due to not being glued properly. Not a big deal, I just re-glued them but I was surprised when I received the set in that manner. But back to  my original problem...how many more brighton sets are there to be auctioned??? Is this really a limited edition??? Though I didnt keep track in the beginning, awhile back I did start keeping track.

Here it is now 4/7/2010 and the Brighton Limited Edition is still being auction on Ebay. They changed the description also from "only 50 sets" to "offered to you on a very limited basis". Makes me go "Hmmmmmmm!" I think it's gonna make someone else go "Hmmmmmm!"

Well it's now 6/29/2010 and this set that was originally a limited addition of 50 sets only are still being auctioned on ebay. And I was right, someone else I'm talking to is going "Hmmmmmmm." He also said "proof is in the pudding", and I have lots of pudding LOL!! Cya later Shawn!

After years of wanting a House of Staunton set of chessmen I finally ordered my 1st last week. All I can say is they're wonderful! The craftsmanship of the pieces is impeccable. I know others who've bought from HoS and I have yet to hear a complaint about any of their products.

From the knowledgeable friendly staff to their quick (securely packaged) delivery... it was a wonderful experience buying from them. Within minutes of ordering I received (via email) a copy of my bill of sale and an order tracking number.

I ordered a 4" boxwood/genuine ebony traditional Staunton style set, a mahogany piece box, and a Cinnamon Burl/Bird's  Maple Superior Traditional board. I couldn't be happier. It's elegant, and it's top notch quality.

I can't wait for my next set already. You always have to plan ahead ;0) It's going to be a 4.4" 1850 Cook replica set from their Timeless series with ebony/antiqued boxwood. Maybe a Signature board to do war on with them.

In August, past, I ordered classic series chess pieces w/5" king in boxwood and dark rosewood.  I had always wanted a set of larger pieces, heavily weighted with nice felt or leather base.  The classic series was made to offer a quality chess set at a reasonable price, and a careful examination of HOS advertising pictures revealed that the set I ordered was designed with especially nice proportions in a simple, classic Staunton pattern.  This set was also on a closeout, and the discount coupons gave me an excellent price on the whole set, board, and red burl case.

When the order arrived I was quite dazzled to see how nice the craftsmanship was, how well-finished the pieces were, how carefully the items were packed for delivery.  The lacquer finish gave the boxwood an almost bone-like appearance, and the grain of the dark rosewood was (and is) magnificent.  I have never seen a chess set, close up, that could match it.  I suppose that there are other chess vendors around who have fine merchandise, and some of them probably have fair prices.  But I no longer look at their listings.  House of Staunton gave me the prettiest set I have seen, and for a truly fair price!  I have to give them five stars for that.

I ordered a set of chessmen and a board. They were delivered quickly, all in good order despite the fact they had to be shipped to Holland.

And I enjoy them very much, everytime I play with them. They are beautiful.

I just won on e-bay the Ebony Collector 4.4 Chess Set & the Red Burl Premium Fitted Chess Box.

Got them both for a perfect price, only the shipping to australia was expensive but the set is a real beauty and the box is perfect.

I am in the process of ordering the Golden Collectors seiries which is the top of the range chess set. The board they sho on their web site with this set looks great but $5,500 is just a little too much for a board :)

Still great piecves and box and they feel so much better to play with.
