How would these outdoor expensive wood chess sets hold up under severe weather.   Example rain causing wet wood.  Then drying out.  Possibly causing cracks more rain and freezing rain in cracks causing wood to split.  Extreme wind tipping over pieces.   Seems like huge outlay of money for chess set that is exposed to weather that would ruin set.

Dear JediMaster,
teak plantationTo prepare teak timbers to giant chess pieces need long times process (several months) and complex finishing. As materials, we use teak woods only, because teak is one of hardest wood from tropical.

See more info about teak :

To enhance wood's natural beauty and coatings teak's surface from changing weather conditions, we use several top products, one of them is : Rust-Oleum Marine Coatings Spar Varnish

With chess pieces that large, is it wise to tip your king when resigning, or to just walk away...?

This is more for those people who have lots of money and live in big houses. Therefore, they can have just a room for the chess board where you have to actually be in the game to move the pieces. I think its actually pretty cool, because then you sorta feel as if you are in the game with your soldiers and you are the commander! :D

so that is exactly why i would not buy a teak wood set because it is tropical wood, which means you endanger rainforests and the natural habitat, moreover it is a threat to whole species of plants and animals if you do so. so think over this stupidity, there are hard woods which are easier to get and you don´t ruin mankinds future.

cedar & larch are both fast growing softwoods, easily obtainable without demolishing rainforest and their own natural oils preserve them for years outside in severe weather - even without treatment!!!
