I had a friend way back in HS days who was pretty good and we would play games that lasted till the early hours of the morning. He went on to make a living at chess, and I stopped playing until I stumbled upon chess.com. So I guess the answer is none.

I only have 1 friend who actually plays chess. The rest are a bunch of lameasses...actually, I just remembered.

I met this one dude at a tournament in Detroit and we've been playing a 4-month long game via email correspondence. We're only in the middle game right now.

It's a heck of a battle.

So, in summation: 1 old-school friend from way back, and one new school friend who is old from just recent.

most of them sees chess as a simple board game...only I realized its true beauty!!

Chess is a dying game in philadelphia, we have chess clubs and so forth but about 80% of people dont like it because they arent good at it or dont know how to play. I love chess and was on the chess team and even on my highschool chess team most players were below 1400 and the best i knew of was 1900 but he was from a school with a great chess mentor at ELO 1900. I wish more people would play chess.

My life is very busy and taking some time from day to day life for chess it is not quite possible.I am very fond of playing chess.In my friend circle I have 3-4 friends  who keeps interest in chess.After joining with this site chess.com I realized it is a good platform to learn and play chess.Playing physically daily with friends is not possible.So I would tell my friends about chess.com.

Friends? When i was young -i had few friends -strong chess-amateurs (about 2200 ELO level).We played in many tournaments and matches, we played per days and nights many blitz games.i always interested in chess-history,philosophy and psychology.All ! my young days  friends are playing chess today-it's nice-they all have individual style and are strong players .They are chess-maniacs (one my friend -for example plays about 10 000 bullet games per month !,other is" leading expert in MY SYSTEM and understands position like Petrosian or Korchnoi ).Everyone,who serious loves chess is my friend.....(but he or she must to know something about Baron Tasillo Heydebrand und der Lasa ,Louis Charles Mahe de La Bourdonnais -not only about Magnus Carlsen ).Good Luck! define friend. i answered 2-3 but these people are chess friends, i do little with them otherwise, never had them over or been to their house. are they friends? don't know, i tend to agree with vivinski, i only see these people at the chess club. i probably should have answered none. my "real" friends know how to play, but enjoy it? who does that except those that have been bitten by the bug! chess venom is deadly, could destroy you or at least change you, look at Duchamp

As a high school student I founded the Chess club in freshman year and I am friends with everyone in the club. I also taught four middle school students how to play chess and they love playing it.
