Sadly, more than 20.  I never met a chess set I didn't like.

You can find some evidence for this on my blog:  http://blog.chess.com/qixel/a-clean-well-lighted-place-for-chess

My chess collection, however, is not nearly so large as my shoe collection.

Just one, unfortunately. It's quite nice, but not very practical. Either way, I almost never get the chance to play on it, just once every few months when somebody comes to visit :p

I'd love to have one of those classic vinyll boards and plastic sets to put next to my computer, like I said my current one is not great for that.

I liked this idea so much I made my own.  I just printed out a board from the Internet and used pieces from a cheap magnetic set I had lying around the house.

Here's a picture of it on my fridge (the position is from the famous "game of the century," Byrne vs Fischer 1956).

I have four regular chess seta (one of them very old), but I also have two very small for travels... After counting them as half set each, I have five, which puts me into two groups. So maybe I shouldn't count them and then I would belong only to 3-5 group. But maybe there are chess sets after all and I belong only to 5-10 group!

Aaaaah what should I do, isn't world falling down on me??? :-D

Alas, I have none.  I've been looking around on tinternet for a good plastic set and appropriate board but cant seem to find one I like.  They're all either the bog standard tournament set which I think is a bit cheap looking and I'm sure I've played on different sets in clubs, or they're too big.  I've seen a few different sets in different clubs, some I like less (practically unplayably horrible), and some more than the standard set, but I cant begin to imagine where they got any of them from.  It seems they don't exist.

I own two now. I had a few cheap ones sitting around, but I finally trashed them.

Yesterday I went to the store and got some nice pieces for a board I've had for about two years.

Today my portable tournament chess set arrived, and I really love it. I've wanted chess sets like these two my entire life and now I have them, so the rest are going to Goodwill.

A dozen or so. All sizes, all prices, plastic and wood, old and new, but all Stauntons (except for one hand-made black onyx/rose quartz disc set).

I like to give away sets when I go much above a dozen.

I have two wooden chess boards, one that came in a book, a pocket-sized chess board, one Harry Potter one that I got for my birthday, one chess board that has a computer inside it and tells you what it wants to move, and finally one acrylic chess board.  This puts me into the 5-10 group

I own 1.  It's a wooden fold up travel board with wood pieces.  The pieces go inside when it's folded up.  When I got the pieces they weren't painted, so I spray painted half gloss white and the other half metallic grey.  they actually look really cool.  Sometime ago my friends dog ate one of the black knights.  I just replaced it with a black lighter from his garbage can.  And it's been that way ever since.

I Have 5 chess sets.......3 of which are computers......I started 63 years ago when I was 10 years old with a Staunton 2.5" King set and folding board.............When the first computers appeared I bought one of the earliest "Fidelity" models it was very limited and eventually I gave it to my eldest son who was a chess beginner.......as computers began to improve I bought a "Kasparov Advanced Turbo Trainer" and sometime later a "Mephisto advanced travel computer"......by this time my sons had become quite strong players and I purchsed a 4" King Staunton set, full size tournament board and a Garde chess clock....we had many a great evenings chess sessions but as always family move away and I didn't have anyone to play against.....Recently I have purchased an "Excalibur Grandmaster".......hopefully my last chess computer....I now seem to lose most of my computer games but I still play nearly every day....I think I am a chess fanatic..!!!!!!!!!

I own 15 complete chess sets and boards. I own one chess board made with butterfly wings. It was made in Brazil around 1930's. I got it as a present. Here is the photo.

Look at the colors. Each white square has four butterfly wings each in a triangle. I have it on display on a wall in my living room. I can take it down and play on it. It has protective glass in front to prevent damage. The wings are actually glued to the second glass. If it broke it would be destroyed.

My other large chess board is a Formica imbedded on a table top. I bought it in th 1950 from the Formica Co. It is mounted on wood and I am searching for proper legs for it. It has backgamon settings and we play cards on it.

Bye for now.
