Very few Events that would qualify as "local". The best bet seems to be a Shogi Tournament(!) in Stockholm

This poll sounds like an attempt to motivate players to check the Events page more often, without taking the effort to at least include some of the bigger tournaments in the "rest of the world". The world is bigger than the US you know... Less than 5% of the world lives in the US, so over 95% of the world will only be disappointed when they look at the Events section. So the option "What? I can check for local events here?!!?" is just ridiculous. 95% actually can't check that page for local events.

Apparently there isn't one single tournament in the entire UK, the nearest is over 150 miles away in Switzerland and that's not local ;P! Maybe if the listings were more complete I would use it, there are tournaments around here somewhere...

I know about it, but the info for countries outside the US sucks-my club keeps me up to date on upcoming tournaments.

What a shame, there is no chess centre in my area Here In Maryland, Lagos State. Please my great chess players of CHESS.COM. remember me in your prayer, so that God will make it possible for the chess club I am planning  to establish see the light of the day.

I tried it, and it does nothing for me in my location.  There are never enough(if any) chess clubs.  Chess isn't nearly as popular as it should be.Cry

They should have an option: "It doesn't cover my area." in their survey.(probably 90%or more would submit that vote.) Pretty stupid poll, if you ask me.

Chess.com members, my best suggestion start your own local group. Simple, create your own events, let it grow and boom you have some over the board games. !!

I look sometimes, but I stopped doing that after a while.

I live in Denver. I search for a 50 mile radius. It has nothing listed. That tells me that either no one in all of Colorado plays chess, or that the events simply aren't being published.

In any case, the "events listing" is useless to me. I know there have to be chess events in Denver, but none show on this site when I check.
