If pre-move is like conditional move I don't think we need it at live chess..
So.....Premove is like conditionnal move?
it looks the same as conditional move
No pre moves thank you I have problems playing now
I'm not really bothered.
I don't think premoves are necessary.
It would require a conditional move board, and that would allow analysis beyond your own mind.
If you just drag a piece to a square on the normal board as a premove, however, that might work. But then newbies would be confused and might accidentally do something stupid like me.
This would be a very nice feature. All the popular live chess servers have this feature anyway (ICC, playchess, etc.)
Premove is where you make a move in your opponent's turn. For example, after 1.e4 e5, as black I might enter exf4 as a premove so if white plays the king's gambit 2.f4, I automatically accept. If play continues 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6, I could then play dxc6 as a premove, so that if white captures my knight, I automatically recapture with my d pawn.
Can someone please explain what "pre-move" is?
I agree with salaskan that a delay clock would be a better feature. They also prevent games from being won on time in silly positions but add less time to the game than increments. It would also give your site a unique feature and make it the best on the Internet for helping USCF players train for OTB games. :)
I always play with 2 or 3 second increments so that my opponent or I don't lose/draw on time in a clearly won game (e.g. K+RvsK ending). Seems much better than pre-moves, which you don't have in OTB play, either. It's a pity that there is only Fischer timing and no Bronstein timing. The difference is that with Fischer timing, you can add time to your clock by making some quick useless moves, and with Bronstein timing, you don't actually get time added to your clock, but your clock only starts ticking after X seconds.
add it!
they arent conditional moves as such (they are really, but not the same as we have on the cc games), and you dont get to see ahead in the game. It's just stuff like automatic recaptures, and 'any' moves, like wasting a move with a rook in an ending. Otb these moves would not cost you any time on your clock, but in livechess it can cost you a couple of seconds atm.
[edit] Another one down to the pitiful firefox 2. It seems much more fluid in firefox 3, although I still miss pieces if i'm trying to rush, so premove would definitely help.
yes, I think so. I found that in livechess there is some slight diffculty picking up the pieces too early, so for example in an ending where i knew which piece i had to move I couldnt pick it up ahead of time and then choose the square quickly when it was my turn. which meant sometimes in a rush I would 'miss' trying to pick up pieces and i'd have to try again. Often even when i picked up the pieces successfully, it would take a couple of seconds to make a no-thought move. So I found I'd need a good amount of time left just to win a won ending like K+R vs K and there would be a good chance of losing on time, maybe even with a small increment, so I think premove would be great. Also, I dont know if this exists already, but I didnt hear it when i used livechess a while back, a piece-placement sound like on babas chess would be nice feedback, and so you easily know when it's your turn.
Live chess is supposed to be like OTB. In OTB chess, according to rule 20C, palyers are forbidden from making notes as a memory aid. So if they added conditional moves to live chess, there would be a clear contradiction.
