The thing about chess that I enjoy the most is the fact that I can "see" it in many different ways, feel it in many different ways, and the fun I have playing it. But, if it's restricted to those options, I'd take the 4th one.

I really like winning, but even more to get more understanding about the game, especially openings.

Seriously, what is up with these? I understand they're not meant to be serious and so I can understand if they'd mess up on the occasional one, but getting literally every single quiz wrong is a bit puzzling.

Also, 1st impressions on the front page should matter so making a more professional job of the surveys can only help...

P.s. The "notify me of new comments" box for the surveys has never worked for me ever since I've been on the site for about a year. It doesn't matter, but I just thought I'd get all my "survey complaints" out of the way. Cool

this really needs to be a multiple choice, because id say 2, 3, and 5

easy choice, but i think there are some options missing :

like this ones for example:

" Playing a good positional game" - (i mean, some games its not the tatics, but the positional advantage, the ability to crush your opponent...positionally Cool)

"Studying gm/fm/im games"  - studying in not only about tactics

"winning in a difficult endgame"

etc...there could be a lot more options.

But for me, from those options, the best one is winning. I just enjoy to win, it doesnt matter if it is because of some tactics, because of positional game, because of great midgame/endgame play, or even because my opponent blundered with me doing really nothing about it. Winning is an option that covers it all, so my option.

My interest and hobby is ballroom dancing. I like to play chess for fun, friendship and brain exercise. In this survey, I choose meeting new people with similar interest because of friendship. I will rather do the ballroom dancing than to play chess but don't get me wrong because chess is my next hobby after my hobby ballroom dancing.

I think the funniest part about chess is playing against better players. Lose and then learn from them. Learn from your mistakes and just try to make it better in the next game.  And then you also win against them sometimes. Thats fun too : )
thats what i think is the funniest part about chess!

If you play you have to study and if you study it only makes sense to play. I enjoy study more than play. I'm not a very competitive person but I love to win a chess game. There is nothing quite as pretty as a checkmate. Still it has always been obvious to me that I don't have enough natural ability to reach a high enough level of play to make competitive chess a realistic goal. As I got older I wanted something to occupy my time and keep my mind active and nothing else appealed to me. All my life chess has fascinated me and now the resources on the Internet are almost endless - like chess itself.
