Maby e4 is more popular, but d4 is best. Some is really good at d4 some at e4, but overall d4 is best.

E4 players are afraid of the Sicilian. There is nothing for the D4 players to fear.

I am a beginner, and so I don't have much a say in this heated discussion. However, I do find arguments between higher rated players very helpful.

Recently I have been exploring e4 openings. I have found d4 openings rather hard and somewhat slow and usually end in a draw. Nevertheless, after all the comments I have read I am more willing to explore the possibilities d4 offer. Thanks :D

I chose 1.d4 only because I had to choose something.  I do believe that Hans Berliner persuaded Fischer that this was the better opening move.  Truth is, I practice neither.  I have been playing 1.Nf3 and 1.c4 for quite a while now.

e4 has my seal of approval.

I'm an e4 player before, I tried experimenting new openings and I fell in love with d4. No doubt, d4 is much more convenient to use than e4. Watch recent masters event, you can rarely see a game that starts with e4 more on d4.

Have you ever considered that most of the GM's over 2700 rating play d4? It has the highest chances of winning , e4 is a beginner move and should be considered as blunder . Every top player prefers d4 , and by the way it's my favorite opening .There are many other reasons beside these ones that show that d4 is better . E4 is for beginners for Gods sake!

Mmm...the amount of people arguing that their opening is the best, this one sucks, this one does this and so-forth. I think this shows that people don't accept that other people are different from them.

e4 is better.

d4 is really annoying to play and to play against because you can't do anything. No matter what you do, the game will end up passive and the book openings go for like 20+ moves.

d4 when I'm white... e4 when I'm not - it's all about counterattacking.

e4 lets the queen and bishop out into play quicker.

I am a relative beginner and to me d4 seems so much more natural. e4 lulls me to sleep.

I personally like e4, I may one day become a d4 player, but I just like e4 a lot and it is hard to give up.
