what interests me is that almost no-one connects the opening to a winning game (or atleast doesn't like it).

i myself like the endgame :)

In my opinion, the most enjoyable thing in chess is tying a game when is in disadvantage.

Sometimes all three occur--a postiional struggle, followed by tactically gaining a small advantage, followed by a not-so-easy endgame. :)

Since my opening is pretty strong (in my standards) but my endgame is about as reliable as a 2 legged-chair, I prefer endgame wins.

Nothing like a killer mating attack to give you a rush.

There is never a choice in this survey that reflects my reasons or preferences for playing chess. What I find most enjoyable is playing complex, double-edged positions with lots of possibilities, win or lose. Keeps the attention focused and engages the mind fully. Great way to pass the time, and that's what it's really all about.

lol winning for a change, definitely.  As for the type of game, I dont particularly like all out tactical games but I love it when I get a nice position and then a cute tactic appears.  So I guess positional, culminating in a pretty tactic would be my favourite.  Hens' teeth though unfortunately!

How about coming from behind, engineering a victory when you could well have lost?  That would have been my choice...Laughing

Everything isn't about winning. Isn't it just great for even knowing how to play chess? What about the fact of just playing for fun. No mattern if you lose or win. >And no I'm not making one of those dumb speaches<

I like winning really complex tactical games, because I really get a confidence boost and it reassures myself that I have some brains and a good ability to calculate. Also, as someone else said I really love forcing draws when I'm losing :D

The most enjoyable for me is the Ballroom Dancing because I like and enjoying myself when I'm dancing. Chess is next to my ballroom dancing.

there is no "winning against a good friend and having that good friend encourage you for it" or "losing to a friend and still feel good cause you fought a good fight!"

The opening is the best time to play "unusual" moves (such as boungcloud), in the middle game there's too many complications for any moves to be considered unusual, and in the endgame it's probably solvable anyway.

Positionally complex games, although any game that I learn something new I like. The only games I really don't like are the ones in which I make a stupid blunder.

Winning with a fun and challenging endgame battle is the most exciting for me. There is a lot more excitement at the end when the board is a little more open and there is so much less room for error trying to pin your oppnent and keep yourself from being pinned. Just my opinion.

For me it's winning after choking out my opponent's initiative after a sacrifice and taking him down with my extra material, my second choice would be a game which ends something along the lines of this.

Me: Thanks for the free piece.

Opponent:YYYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSS, you just fell for my trap! Ha! Now you lose your queen!

Me: Bg5 mate, GG

Opponent : No, I can block with my Knight!

Me:It's pinned actually

Opponent: No, nononononono this can't be happening....

I pick "a tough endgame battle". Unfortunately, most of my games aren't won like that! Laughing I often win on tactics, or in the opening if I'm white
