Double King pawn openings aren't terrible. I play the classical Petrov, d4 against d6, the various Ruy Lopezes without problem. Even Scotch isn't terrible.

I like main line Sicilians because I used to be a Sicilian player, until I recently switched to strictly the Caro-Kann.

Advanced against Caro-Kann. The occasional Panov attack

French Tarrasch (or Rubinstein if black takes on e4).

    Austrian against the Pirc.

    Central dominance against the modern.

Former Alekhine's player, I play Four Pawns attack as white.

I try to get Nimzowitch to transition into a Scotch, with which I am much more familiar.

What does that leave? Ah, the Scandinavian. Yes, I hate the Scandinavian. *sighs*

I don't play 1.e4.  I'm not a huge fan of memorising opening book, so I play 1.d4 as there are a lot less good responses that black can use.

Not saying that it's stronger than e4.  It's just much easier to play.

When playing again 1.e4, I usually respond with 1...c5

I do not like a kp7 (king pawn 7) reply.

Scillion is obviously the hardest to play against. It is a extremelly sound opening with many variations. The move 1. Nf3 is starting to become the best starting move (even though I dont use it.) because you can develop ALL of your pieces.

Why do so many hate facing the French? I think black has to be very accurate just to equalize. I will paraphrase Tal "I have never had good results with the French. To suceed with the french one must play very accurately, A quality I I never had much now nor in my younger days."

Also, I don't know why, but I hate playing against the Scandinavian Defense. I actually respond to d5 with 2. Nc3!? now, just to discourage black from taking my   e-pawn. Also, 1...g6 is kind of irritating because it can transpose to different openings like the Sicilian and the Pirc unexpectedly, but it's not too bad, I guess.

Does anyone else think it's kind of funny how the survey says "1.e4!" instead of just "1.e4" ? hahahaha

You all are crazy. (Except the Canadians) The Sicilian guarantees a win for black and thus, e4 is worthless.

No, it's just because it is so banal and obvious ... Too studied, too used, too ... Too much everything! Come on, mighty leaders of the blacks, a bit of courage! Cool

Why do so many dislike the Sicilian!!!

    Wait...

Maybe because it is black's best response.

...The strategic depth of this defense, is unexceptionable: the black king, he gains the Opposition against the white king! There is no doubt that this gives it a decisive advantage for the end-game.
