That works if white responds by taking the queen, but there are plenty of ways to avoid mate here.
I was thinking white could play Qe2 which is still bad after Nxg1 Kxg1 Rh4 but seems harder than the queen exchange
jlueke, Any queen move is followed by Nxf2+
1. Qe2 Nxf2+
2. Qxf2 Qxh2+
3. Kxh2 Rh4 mate
took me 20 secs to figure out I was black. It should play the move so u know who u are lol
I think if white takes black's knight with the g2 pawn, she can struggle on for a few more moves.
Lots of options for both sides here.
erikido23, look to see where the kings and the majority of pieces and pawns are, and whether it says, "You Play Black" or You Play White." Kinda simple.
@Clavius - Nice analysis on the puzzle.
I also didn't think White would take the Queen (I personally supposed something like Qe2); not a big deal since it is easy to see the mate after that. Still, I'd prefer to see an optimal line here instead...
maroon5fan...I have been tricked on puzzles by where the kings and pawns were. And sometimes you just don't see where it says white to play. SImple really, sthu condescending ahole
I didn't see that as the best choice. You have a sure mate in 3 if you sacrifice the rook.
white should not take the Queen, but loses the white Queen then. I don`t see that a rook-sac would garantuee a mate - only if white responds and takes the sac, I see.
This is awful. A clear blunder by the computer player ruins the point of this.
I solve it in 1:30 min, and give me 1 point,
I'll trade my queen for smothered mate any day of the week!
