    By taking with the knight, you only lose a minor piece (3 points). Contrarily, if you take with the rook, you lose 5 points with the retake.

    I tend to agree with you Phaedrus especially as chess.com definition says: "Hanging" is another way of saying "undefended" or "loose" in chess. A tactic that involves simply taking or exposing undefended pieces in some way would qualify. However others would say: 

    Sometimes the hung piece is not totally free but still results in the loss of material.
