@Glamdring, do not take this too personal. No one meant it that way, unless you created your account for this purpose.

Chess.com should prevent people from playing tournaments when they didn't play a certain number of games. I don't know if this should be 10, 20 or 50 games.

One thing improved (but probably after this tourney started): you now be "unrated" as new player on the site. And unrated players will not fit in a 1000-1200 tournament.

Also understand, that a player like me, that is 1100-1200 for two years already, will see new 1500+ players in every single tournament again, and again, and again, and .... and then it becomes frustrating after all...

I would agree, but tournament organisers have to enforce such things.  I was new to the site when I joined so didn't really know how fast my rating would go up, how good I was relative to others on the site, etc, etc.  If I click on "Join tournament" and it lets me then I naturally assume it is legitimate for me to enter.

If everyone whose rating is above 1200 were to withdraw now then I would do so, but since that isn't the case and this is the only tournament at this level I will ever play unless my rating drops massively I don't wish to withdraw just for the sake of it when others aren't.  The doors have to be shut at time of entering the tournament, not half the people realising later on they are at a level above the tournament.

I lost a game in my round to someone rated 1100 so during the playing of my games I didn't feel I was a significant level above those around me.

I'm sorry to say, but this tournament *again* is full of fakers ... When will chess.com do something about this? From 6 people in my round, 4 have a rating that is >1200, and one is 1559. This ain't fair, and ain't fun either.

Seriously 1788???  in a <1200 tourney? How do you pick up 588 in a few months?  win 100 <1200 games without losing?

Rancha - I've complained to the staff many times about that, but they don't seem to care.... but they spoil every single 1000-1200 tournament.

I think there is no excuse and it is pretty obivious. ALL those are far beyond rating 1200 is PREMIUM members, because they can enter tournaments WITHOUT ANY games played.
I think it's very clear about what shoud be done, huh?

Honestly, can't the TD kick those two vacationers?  This is supposed to be a quick tournament, and now it might take 3 weeks to go to round 2.  I suppose he should at least wait until the 2 remaining legit games are finished, but I hope we're not just sitting on our thumbs for the better part of a month.

Is there nothing at all that can be done about those 2 guys who have gone on vacation mode (one with still 21 days to go if he takes them all) having played either 0 or 1 move in all their games?  There are only a couple of other live games still in play yet the whole tournament will have to potentially wait 21 days for someone who joined it and then wandered off immediately!

@callico: the tournament organiser could choose to invite only players that have a lot of finished games (for a steady rating), apparently he didn't, which is just a decision. As Glamdinges said: if your rating stays too high afterwards, you can not re-attend such a tournament.

You have to be < 1200 at the start of the tournament.  Naturally the people winning a lot of games at the top of a group will pick up a lot of points in doing so.  I currently have a 1575 rating, but I picked up all those points during either this tournament or the one I am playing in parallel.

It may seem unfair, but if our rating stays well above 1200 then we only get to enter a tournament at this rating range once, when we are first starting out.

This isn't sour grapes, honest (well, just a bit maybe) .. but how come the winner of our group (group 26) has a rating of 1326, when the tournaments rating limit is 1200??

Anyone shed some light o it?

    Thanks

Thanks glamdring .. but I just checked again, and there's one game outstanding which I'd missed. It's between the player on 7 points and a player further down .. and I think he'll win it.

And there was me getting all excited!

    Oh well, maybe next time.

Tie break only comes into effect when scores are tied so if you have 7.5 points and the next best has 7 points and all games in the group are finished then you are through (and should have a green arrow next to your name).

If the person in 2nd place still has games to play though and it is just you who has finished all games then of course he can pick up more points and move ahead of you.

I still don't understand the 'tie break' thingy.  I must be thick.

If your group games are completed and your name is at the top, does that mean you've won that round.

I'm at the top with 7.5 points, and a 20.25 tie break, and the one below me has 7 points and a 24.5 tie break.

    Who goes through?

    Confused

You are correct.  My answer wasn't detailed enough.
