@tardisisis, talk for yourself, I don't consider myself "good now". My standard rating is still below 1300. When/if I get past 1500 I'd consider saying that.

I don't think it is more fun to play against someone who is a few hundred points better then you but was your rating 6 month ago then it is to play against someone who has been a few hundred points above you for the whole time. I do see the difference you are talking about. I just don't see how it affects our place in this tournament as of now. We are both to good now and we are both able to withdraw, i.e. we have the power of being in this tournament or not at any given time. I am not going to withdraw, you can do it if you want and everybody else who is rated to high can as well. Also I wouldn't mind playing in the 1400-1600 or 1600-1800 bracket.

@tardisisis, I am sorry but we are in a very different sittuation here. As someone pointed out, its been 6 months. I cannot "stop myself from learning", and neither can any of the players which are still activelly practicing chess.

You case is completely different though, since you knew you did not belong in here from the very start (you mentioned that not many posts ago) and that you ended up here just because of rating.

Beware that I am not "blaming you". I am just putting out my thoughts about this rating system, which by the way, I had mentioned before. You are not doing anything illegal, so be it.

Talking by myself, I would resign right away from a game against a player with 2000 points in this tournament. Its wouldn't be even fun.

I have not played many live chess standard games. My rating for that isn't accurate. Of course I know that my turn-based chess rating is too low, chess.com chose the rating bracket I have to play in; that wasn't me.

Also why does it make a difference whether my rating was correct when I joined the tournament. You are too good for this rating bracket now, so you are "ruining" the other peoples chances as well. As a matter of fact at least a quater of the people don't belong into this tournament anymore.

@robobeer and @DTankas, I am also one of those who got more points since I started this tournament. However, this is not the case for tardisisis.

By May 1st (when the tournament started) he was already 1500+ in live standard. March 1st he was 1476 on turn-based chess, and then dropped quickly to 930 (probably withdrew another tournament?). For this reason, on May 1st he was only 1150 in turn-based chess, and voilá, he entered this low-rate tournament.

Truth be told, he does not belong to this class, and he knows that. There are other people who do not belong here, and just ended up here because of rating issues. Claps to dupal68 though, for withdrewing the tournament instead.

I agree Dtankas, I am one of those people too. This was the first tourney I joined when I started playing here. Although I think my rating might be a bit inflated since im stuck in a few lower ranked tournaments.

Sure if you active on this site youre gonna improve and your rating will get up. This tournament is already almoste for half of year goin on, so half of year ago these people was 1001-1200

Is that exciting tardisisis? You're 1651 in live standard.

It's close, just little more than 50 games remaining. Good luck in 2nd round people Smile

It is an interesting idea and solve parts of the problem. However I don't like that people seem to usually blame the people who have a rating which doesn't represent their strength. People with a rating between 1000 and 1200 can only join this tournament.

My rating is too low as well. When I stoped playing chess for a while I resigned my running games which resulted in a rating drop of about 500 points. Now I barely have a choice, if I want to play in a tournament I have to join this rating bracket.

Also it is a problem which is quite symptomatic for this rating bracket since everybody who hasn't played a single game yet will end up in this tournament.

@tardisisis: Yes, that's right, I totally forgot about external matches. However, that is a little sad. Imagine a guy who plays chess already for a long time, and is rated 2000+ in OTB. He then joins a tournament for 1200? If so, the real 1200 point players will never stand a chance to win a tournament! Perhaps a minimum limit of games played prior to the tournament would help to make things a little more fair? Dunno, just wondering.

If the 10 games are the first 10 games you ever play yes you can get 500 points with 10 wins since at the beginning your rating adjusts really quickly. Also I think if he plays other games outside this tournament he could have won far more then 10 and his rating would adjust with those games as well.

For the eleven points I think thats simply a mistake in the system somewhere but it shouldn't matter since that person is advancing anyway. Not sure about this.

For the timeouts if they weren't there people who are just not on chess.com anymore wouldn't fall out of the tournament and there would never be a round 2 be careful what you wish for.

Good luck to anyone who is still playing

I am also wondering these guys with 1700+ in first place - even if you win all the 10 matches, can you get 500 pts?!?!

Also I am wondering about that guy with 11-0-0 points. He won 10 matches, where is the 11th point coming from? Is there any tournament rule that gives an additional point under certain conditions?

Anyone else find if odd that there is a 1730 rated player in the top 10? I thought this was capped @ 1200.
