I can understand someone's rating going up after a tournament has started (especially one that takes as long as this one), but a rating increase of 400-600 points is simply unfair to the people with established ratings.

My comment would be suggestion to chess.com

In a tournament, if the results of final few game (maybe more than 1), are not going to affect the qualification for the next round, why not to start the next round? Let the players play at thier own speed.

Of cousre, I do get annoyed. But starting the next round, not at the expense of other player would be a wonderful idea. After all, they are just playing/ enjoying chess.

As someone who is also waiting for this final game to end (I am top of my group so eager to move onto the next round) I have some sympathy for the people playing.

Yes, the player who is obviously going to lose could and probably should resign. However he/she is playing within the rules. I presume they is/was hoping that that they could force a draw (however unlikely)

In reality, this isn't about their style of play or their gamesmanship but more to do with the the fact this is the one game that's holding up progress.

If this game had taken place months ago, it wouldn't have mattered. Its easy to look at another game and pick holes / issues.

I for one hope their game comes to a speedy conclusion, however not at the expense of them trying to play the game as well as they can and exhausting every opportunity they see fit to win. After all, how many times have one of us snatch victory from the jaws of defeat (or in my case its often the other way around!!)

My final comment is that everyone complaining about and messaging them about these games won't help... Its only likely to atagonise the situation!

This game will end, life will move on and the next round will start...

I'm with the players playing the last game in this argument.

They are playing within the rules and I think Schnibob's forum post is considerably more coherent than most of the posts whining about their game.

If 3 days per move tournaments are too slow for you, don't join them.  It really is as simple as that.

If you are waiting for the tournament to proceed because you have a membership that doesn't allow many tournaments, you have two options:

    1) leave this tournament and remember the top tip above for the future (i.e. don't join any more); or

    2) upgrade your membership

P.S. Chess is a game with rules, like the tournaments have rules.  Are there are any chess rules you don't like either?  Maybe you regard castling on the queen side as unfair?

P.P.S. That's only 244 people you can claim to represent

It seems the time per move is improving, that helps a lot. I do not begrudge a person wanting to complete a game if it is moving in a timely fashion.

I would like to thank Schnibob for TRYING to close out this game. I apologise if I have offended you.

In this position, where black has obviously won, wouldn't it be bad sportsmanship if white went on vacation. If that occurs he could be banned from the tourney which I wouldn't mind at all. Well, Schnibob I hope you succeed in mating him quickly. although I do remember witnessing a K-Q mate that took 30+ moves from a 1300+ player...

    Schnibob

Well he has moved a few times in the past 24 hours so maybe he's been reading this but there's no sign of giving up.  This is the current position:

Obviously white is in a strong position Embarassed I (black) could offer to resign if 245 people are really so desperate to start the next round in this 1200-1400 tournament but I think that would make some angry with me for being weak.

    bigpawn63

You're right, you two aren't breaking any rules. But if you play chess at all, it is annoying for chess players to wait on a game in which th result is clear. Even to 1200 players. Immature chess players force others to mate them just because they can. Children do it all the time hoping the other player will make a mistake. I agree that white shouldn't resign just to end the match. Black always takes three days to move, his right, but I am sure he would rather be right than be happy.

    Schnibob

Sorry, you have have not only appointed yourself spokesperson for 245 other players but are now being a bit  personal boy bach.

Just for the record, I enjoy playing all my games to win but don't win as often as I would or used to.  Like the other guy who just commented states, I am likely to win this game so why should you or anyone else try to boo me off the park.   I am not happy that my game is the last one to finish nor enjoying the fact but I do not see why I should resign from a now winning position.  I guess my opponent wants a draw but we do not chat.

I'm fairly certain that if you check through the talk boards of nearly every official tournament that's been running here, you'll find people like yourself impatiently whinging as the rounds reach their final games.  Those who are involved in the last games are always the target of petty irrational comments and often very abusive stuff is written as well. We do not know what issues people have in their personal lives nor how much computer/online access they have.  Not everybody is glued to chess.com.  The same discussion is going on in the 12th official tournament at this level which started 18 months ago - and no, I'm not in it.

I average about 4 hours per move so don't see why you are accusing me of delaying things as I am not.  My opponent is not doing anything wrong apart from in choosing some of his moves.

By the way, chances are, unless I  improve, you won't be drawn against me in some future tournament - this current tournament is below your current standard.  Using similar illogical thinking to your own, perhaps you should actually withdraw from the tournament as you are now too good for it.

One other suggestion would be to only enter the Quick Tournaments in the future.  These were created for people who find 3 days per move too long.  There is one starting soon.

    @ Schnibob.

Your statement shows what sort of person you are. You are content to displease 245 other people just to prove a point. So what if you have three days to move. You haven't got to use the full time. If we are all so bad at chess then why not just give your game up, you don't care about ratings. OR are you taking some delight at the attention you are getting.

I hope that we are never drawn to play together.

You are acting in a very childlike way Sir.

What's annoying is that neither of the players will advance to the next round. I could care less if you guys take 5yrs to move so long as others don't have to wait for the next round to start. you guys are just holding up the 245 players who want to continue with this tourney. Personally i think white should just resign cause he's obviously lost and the game is taking forever. Mayhaps a tourney ban is a bit harsh but you both should be kicked out of the tourney cause the it will be 12/12/12 by the time you guys are done.

Why should I be banned from a tournament ffor playing a game of chess?  The rules here were clearly 3 days per move.  My opponent's average time per move is a bit slower but I don't have a problem with it as s/he isn't doing anything wrong.

When people start playing any game with 3 days per move they should be aware that with about 50 moves per game each game could last for 300+ days.  My opponent isn't doing anything wrong so I don't see why you suggest we should both be banned.  It is only a game of chess so why the impatience?  It is not as if you have entered a very high ranking tournament with thousands of pounds prize money.  Anyone playing at this level is pretty crap to say the least so chill out and just play your other games.   As it says above: New rounds will start when ALL games in the current round are complete.
