    Mobile apps update recommendation:

    Notify that the game play is a TOURNAMENT GAME.

    Thanks.

    Congratulations.

    This was my first Chess.com Tournament.

    When round #2 began, I received my games on my CELL PHONE. I began each game not knowing that they were TOURNAMENT GAMES. Please add an alert system or E-mail for TOURNAMENT GAMES. I played without any game analysis, thinking the games were from the "live chess" server.

    Thanks for making Chess an enjoyable pastime!

    Sincerely, Josh

    Can we start round two, the  games that have not finished are meaningless to who goes through to the next round

    @phinneas

    Yes, you're right, no rule is broken. But there is also ethics... By the way, I found an interesting FAQ on vacation abuse (see below). In my case, vacation time is not involved, but I feel it is the same kind of behaviour ("intentionally delay a game when in a lost position")... Which is very different than just playing slow.

    • Vacation abuse occurs when players use vacation time simply to prolong games that are completely and hopelessly lost.
    • Please use vacation time in an honest matter, when you are unable to move for an extended period.
    • Chess.com has the right to adjudicate any game in which we feel one of the players is using vacation time to intentionally delay a game when in a lost position. Abusing vacation time may also result in a warning and/or account closure.

    by the way, if the guy want to play only one move per 2,9 days, what the matter? Anybody is obbey to lose. If the rules of tourney are keeping, I can't see any problem. But, you talk about change the rules. I agree. I propose: 3 days by move until move 40. After that: 30 days for rest of the game plus 1 day per move.

    In time: My english is bad...

    Hi!

    In case you're wondering why these tournaments take so long, just take a look at "bat4uo" games (Group #94). He won't resign even if his two games against me are dead lost AND he plays only one move every 3 days on each game, AND:

    • When time is up on one game and he must play, he won't play on the other game;
    • He plays only one move, even when I use conditional moves to try and speed up the game;
    • He won't play more than one move even if his next move is forced (see diagram below below).

    What can he possibly do to slow down things even more? Oh yeah, buy a membership and go on vacation! (please don't tell him!).

    On a more positive note, here are some suggestions that might help to speed up tournaments:

    1. Adjudication by TD after a given date when outcome is obvious (official tournaments only)

    2. Automatic adjudication after a given date when there is an advantage of, say, five points or more for either player

    3. Limited number of days of vacation (per round, per tournament?) chosen by the TD when setting up the tournament. For example, you could use 5 days of vacation (not a whole month!) in one round. An interesting alternative to both "No vacation" and "almost unlimited vacation"...

    4. When ranking won't change, the next round can start if all players that are advancing have finished their games

    Anything else you can think of?

    # Timeouts: 1008 (19%). I think this is the number games which time runs out on an opponent. So 1008 games has end with time factor deciding the encounter

    @Channet - Tiebreak is the score of the opponents you beat, plus half the score of the opponents you drew.

    Hiya duvvurisubrahmanyam...!! Problem with all these tournaments is that you need to be in for the long haul....I started my first tournament in early January...still not complete, but almost. So if you have a group of 6 like we have then you should reckon on +/- 1 month per 1.5 players...and believe me you will be grateful for the 3 days thinking time if you are up in the top echelons, even during the openings...good luck.
