The 3rd round suddenly starts when many of us got significant rating boost. The tournament would be an indication of how much we improved during the long time laspe between rounds.

How about being a 100+ games old to be eligible? This would at least take off the new players.

I'm a pretty recent player and i'm rated 1700+ for now. I was at 1577 when I join the tournament and I admit that my ego is feeling well for now. But what does it worth. For what I know, I could be overrated since my average opponent is 1489. I'll join the 1601-1800 next tournament and i'll see how far I can go but I suspect it won't be that far.

One thing I've learn is win or lose dose'nt matter. What's important is to improve as a player. Playing chess is real fun and I won't let anything make it less fun. When my opponent is what I call a "Young mind", i go to the next game and forget about him.

    @A1Rajjpuut--

I can't tell if you are making a 'funny' about socialism or Obama, or if you are making fun of me while taking my statement out of context.

The intro to the scenario I provided was: "I'm sure other people have thought of this scenario: I play both individual 'seek'..." The 'I' should have the double quotes "I" around it to show that it's all hypothetical.

If a joke, then great tongue in cheek sarcasm... if not, well, you're wrong about the whole situation.

Wow!  Did you read this quote above?

"I play both individual 'seek' games and join tournaments. I intentionally lose (though with a decent showing so that I'm not accused of cheating) and I try to win my tournament games. Result? My chess.com rating is much lower than my skill and I look good during tournaments... That might stroke a few egos, but doesn't do much when it comes to improving at chess."

I'm really impressed by the guy from Canada with the hammer and sickle ornament admitting he deliberately loses so he can keep his rating "tournament-profitable."  CLASSY!  Is that the first time in history a communist or Fabian Socialist told the truth.  Perhaps Obama should move to Canada and learn something??   :      )  Seriously, that is HONEST!

@Rogsch--the 'scenario' I explained was something I've thought of, not indulged in. If you can see my tourney results, I'm not doing so well in them ;-)

rssnspy6, the way I read your answer to "unclewoody" is that you cheat at cheating. I would much rather be beaten by a player like you, than to be one!

At last the second round of the tournament has started. It should have started at least in November. I say good luck to all the players that are playing in this round. I hope that there will be no one having a long vacation and hold this round for long months?

@unclewoody. When the tourney began they were rated 1401-1600... Some of this may be because they've just opened the chess.com account recently and haven't won enough to reach their 'average' rating.

I'm sure other people have thought of this scenario: I play both individual 'seek' games and join tournaments. I intentionally lose (though with a decent showing so that I'm not accused of cheating) and I try to win my tournament games. Result? My chess.com rating is much lower than my skill and I look good during tournaments... That might stroke a few egos, but doesn't do much when it comes to improving at chess.

While the slow play is an issue, more concern to me is the ranking system. Sign up is 1400 to 1600. Look at the players moving on, most meet the 1800 to 2000 range. Why would excellent players want to play and crush lesser skilled players?

" If you need more than a weeks vaction time to compete, you don't need to play. "

    Don't agree at all.

Some of these games last months, not everyone can commit to not having longer than a week away over that period of time.

The second round may be 8 months to a year after the first, you're saying that people should know that they are not unavailable for longer than a week over the next year or so before joining?

Surely with the complaints posted the powers that be will do the wise thing in the future and tweek the rules with some of the suggestions made.  I agree the tournament should should go on when the winners of all groups are determined.  Also there should be a limit on total vacation time allowed.  If you need more than a weeks vaction time to compete, you don't need to play.

I couldn't agree more with RogSch. The next round should have started weeks ago when the last group winner was determined.

I have read all the comments (complaints, explanations and solutions) about slow play and have been guilty of complaing myself in my 1st tournament. I agree that the rules are predetermined and we just have to wait it out, OR DO WE? Perhaps a fair and workable solution would be to set the pairings up in a way that when a player mathematically cannot be overtaken or tied in the #1 spot they are declared the "advancer" and the other players in the group are considered eliminated. They can still finish their games if they want to but it doesn't hold up the whole tournament. Right now we have about 317 players waiting for five games that niether player has a chance of advancing and the worst one with 3 games active is on vacation. Check out groups 174, 191 and 290. It must be frustrating for the leaders in those groups to be waiting for these games to end.

#163 pending. We have a guy who moves then goes on holiday for 4 weeks. He's on his 5th holiday of the year already, don't know how he affords it all! (or where he gets all the vacation time from?)
