Well, since I'm already going ahead to the next round, I'll forfeit the last game.

Yes, it is frustrating, and I know first hand: my opponent is on vacation.

It's a little frustrating to be waiting for the last few games, none of which will have any effect on the qualifiers for the next round. But I guess the programming would be pretty complicated to allow the next round to start while this round continues.

Incidentally, the tournament stats show 31 players left in. I make it 30, with 10 of those due to be eliminated once these remaining games are finished, leaving 20 players for the next round.

wooohooo.

round two should start monday, if not in 11 hours, but then again i guess johnny-on-the-spot could could come back before that... i would be surprised if he was actually using his vacation time cause he was away, rather then just putting in on vacation and forgot about it.

are you guys still wondering what he is doing on vacation?.....

hehehe

"Johnny-on-the-spot is currently on vacation!
"Awesome"

They have 3 days 6 hours of vacation time left, but may be back sooner."

 "phananhvu is currently on vacation!
They have 9 hours 49 minutes of vacation time left, but may be back sooner."

looks like we just have 3 days of waiting for these players  "on vacation" to time out so we can continue playing the quick knockout tournement....

three cheers for vacations!

why time out now? forty days for everyone, and automatic if you are a member!

hope you guys that made it to the next round didnt use up all your vacation in round one!!

well, last running game is going now.  the rest are on vacation.  i predict that round two will begin within 10-15 days.  assuming that no one goes on an extended vacation, or literally takes 23 hours per move.  i havent checked today, but yesterday there was very few games that even had the possibility of effecting the outcome of who would make it to round two.  although there is a very interesting three way tie in group 60.

hope you all saved up your vacation time to piss me off in round two.

see you there!

Haha, nobody's forcing you to play tournaments with vacations, they're allowing you to.

Don't expect everyone to move like clockwork.  If you can't deal with one move per day, that's your problem, don't play those games.

....and patience has always been very important in chess, especially correspondance chess.

Now y'all quit complaining and enjoy the game. Because that's all it is: a game. Smile

Ipslne:

there is no reason online chess cant be fast.  i don't understand why you would think that.

everyone gets equal vacation time, but only paying members have it automatically turn-on so they won't lose a game.

if you think delaying isn't a tactic you must have never played in an OTB tournement.

just to give you a little bit of something that is easy for me to imagine, since you think it "really can't be used as a tactic".

what you have to do is you first get yourself into a 1day/move game, then you figure out when your opponent usually signs online, and you just have to hope i guess that they dont sign online multiple times in a day, or just wait them out over the course of the game.  all you have to do is wait for them to sign online before they usually do, and be on vacation. when you make your move after they log off and you go off vacation, by the time they usually sign back on they will have lost on time.  it's actually pretty simple, did u think about this one?  i wont waste everyones time with more hypothetical ways someone could take adavantage of the vacation time cause you should have enough imagination to do this for yourself.

do you actually believe the statement: "A good player is a patient player." or did that just fit with what you were saying at the time?    im not disagreeing just to disagree, i see the benefits of being patient in chess, but on the other hand wouldnt it but just as accurate to say "A good player is a proactive, quick player" ??  patience, to me, has little to do with being good at chess, but is certainly a virtue seen abundant among chess players.  have you ever played a blitz game  Ipslne?  it's probably safe to say there is no causation of patience and good chess playing, although, undeniably, a corrolation.

two more things, thecat isnt a dickhead, i take back my angry/frustrated claims against him.  but look at the game if you want to understand my perspective.

again:  i won't force you guys to play in non-vacation tournements, why do you force me to play with vacation?

Everyone is given an equal amount of vacation time each year. It's fair to allow that "life happens" slip on time for each person. It really can't be used as a tactic other than to delay a tournament, which really is no tactic at all. A good player is a patient player. If you want fast games, perhaps online chess isn't your greatest choice.
