we adjudicated the games. sorry for the delay. one game was clear, one was not so clear, but we adjudicated based on the untimely vacation with no reason given.

ahem....sorry for that outburst all....

erik, i applaud what you are doing here and i understand how annoying it must be for you in these kind of events, but this has just got to stop. this tourney's been going on for months now and it's simply unfair to keep people waiting any more. the fact that this guy's gone on vacation NOW of all times when there are 2 games left that just so happen to be his is selfish and unthoughtful of others. this guy deserves to lose both games so awarding each guy 1 games is as fair as it can get. furthermore each player is marginally ahead in one of their games and it will most likely turn out that they'll win one each. furthermore (getting sick of me yet) each player is on 2 or 3 and even if either of them wins both games it will not affect the final standings in their division.

this is outrageous!!!! now he's gone on vacation!!!!!

i move that we should award each player a win each, it's fair, quick and by god are we sick of waiting!!! who knows how long he's going to be on vacation?

Why are we waiting for the final two games to conclude?  Their outcome is insignificant.

I admit in advance that patience is not one of my strengths.

I also admit that I am mathematically challenged.

That being said, and just for arguments sake, can someone please correct me if I am wrong.  It appears to me that three groups have not yet completed all of their games.  However, it seems to me like the winners will clearly be Roophyroy in 37, Nienna in 65, and Damon in group 81.  Can anyone else win these groups?  If not, why not start the next round?

Thanks for the input, Erik.  The closer we've gotten to the end, the more obvious to me it has been that calculating when the tournament could progress would not save much time.  It's interesting to watch, but not really meaningful.

Somewhat sorry he posted those observations, Embarassed

It would appear that the only group where there isn't a clear winner (I think it is group 81). In all the other groups, there is a clear winner even though some games have yet to be completed.

Would the organisers be able to progress the next round as soon as there is a clear winner for this remaining disputed group (group 81 or 82).

we've done the math on it - solving for scenarios when there is no implications of the standings does not save any time under most circumstances.

why have vacation time? we've beat this idea to death. the reason happens to be that there are more things in life than chess only :) sometimes things come up. and it is almost never vacation time that delays events. if there is a vacation game delaying the tournament, we will adjudicate the game.

firefox does NOT have built-in spyware paths :)

Great stuff rRattusrex.  I would love to hear a response from the chess.com staff.

While I fully agree that individuals should have time to calculate there moves this tourney has been going on for 4 months now. Any people who cant play a game in that time should not have joined.

Lets do some math while we wait!!!

Four months=120days

that works out to 40 time mandated moves.

We are waiting on games with less than that many moves, and individuals who are all but mathematically eliminated.

Why allow vacation time during tourneys?

Is it right to have hundreds of people waiting?

I applaud Eric and the staff at Chess.com for the excellent site that they have here but think minor changes to the setup would help.

I personally have BIG problems with using the firefox browser to play LIVE. Cant play with Explorer at all as I get frozen and cant move. I have tried firefox and found that it has some built in spyware paths. Since I operate a Television Station on the same system that I play chess on I dont think it is such a good idea for me to take chances. That being said, I cant even play live while waiting for the next round.

Well that is all for now.

Good Luck to you all,

Ron

It's not a lack of patience (at least for me).  But calculation - in any form - interests me.  For example: What does it take to reach a certain result, and what is the shortest/easiest path?  What can you extrapolate from what is known?

I'd love to start the next round, but that's not what drove my curiosity.  And since it took me a little bit to figure out, I thought I'd share.  Plus, then people could point out any mistakes I'd made.

What about the sport guys?

Your attitude isn't either patient or fair play, which are great qualities for a chess player.
